Hosta 'Aureomarginata'

High marks for this one as it always looks attractive and the slugs don't bother it. I love this hosta.

Large, vase shaped mound of gold-margined foliage. Emerges early and grows to 27" by 68". Leaves are 15" long by 8.25 wide with a 1-2"...Read More variable bright gold margin that often streaks into the shiny medium green center. The margin gradually fades to chartreuse if grown in deep shade or can bleach to white with direct sunlight. Slightly shiny underside; ovate to oblong-elliptic, arching blade that has a deeply lobed, puckered base and a pointed, downwardly curved tip, slightly wavy throughout blade. Leaves are faintly corregated at maturity; no reddish purple dots on petiole; good substance. 14-15 vein pairs.

It is sometimes easy to confuse H. 'Montana aureomarginata' with H. 'Fortunei aureomarginata' at first glance - I did it myself when first uploading a picture here. Once I'd see the picture in contrast with the others present and was able to look at the leaves closely - I knew I'd made a mistake! But the leaves of H. Montana are longer, have more vein pairs, more streaking of the leaves, and have a slightly different overall shape than H.Fortunei.
