I keep plants of it going year-to-year by taking a bunch of the vivipar...Read Moreous plantlets (a small plant that forms in the center of a lily pad/leaf) and keeping them on a sunny windowsill in plastic cups with aquatic soil and water a couple of inches deep over the winter. Nice to not have to buy new plants every year!
This is an easy-to-grow variety, with impressive color (purple-blue), nice fragrance, pretty leaves, and the ability to adjust to the size of the container it is grown in. From mid-August on, it is pretty prolific in its setting of viviparous plantlets, and last year it bloomed right through the end of September. I have had 4 blooms open at one time, but I do feed aquatic plant food tablets on a fairly regular basis.
Highly recommended variety! Provides a nice contrast to the hardy varieties which do not come in blues or purples. Plant out deep enough to escape deer browsing, if that is a problem in your area. (I sometimes place a sturdy, empty tub upside down, then put the tub with the lily in it on top of that so the plant isn't in too deep, but the deer are deterred).

Bigger pot will result in greater blooms. i am growing it in a clay pot of 16 inches diameter wide with 12 inches depth. There are lots of colors available but none of them is night bloomer. This one opens at 10 am while closes at 5 pm
