And unless you are among those masochist gardeners who grow cacti, roses, etc., and don't mind a little blood-letting while pruning, this one is not for you. "Prickly poppy" is an understatement. A local name for this poppy is "Devil's Fig"....
I once wrote, after my first encounter with this poppy,
In Heaven there are Fig Trees -
Madonna's Lily abounds,
But Shaitan has his garden too -
Argemone fill the grounds.
Of course, not fair. Argemones are God's own creation, just created for a few braver souls, that's all.
(Actually, the devil's no good with flowers - in jealousy he created slugs and aphids and politicians... :-)
