I planted this in fall 2000 in Los Angeles County. It has rarely bloomed but now we are trying to fertilize it regularly. Last year we we...Read Morere able to get it to bloom 3 times which was the most ever. It sits in a mostly shady area in our front yard and likes to spread out. It is heat and cold tolerant.
We originally planted it in a slightly sunnier position in the yard where it gradually grew and bloomed occasionally. Once we moved it, it has grown much more aggressively.
Its flowers never look exactly the same, which makes it fun to have in our yard. The colors vary with different red, yellow and orange combinations. I will post photos.
It sits next to our Byron Metts Hibiscus, which has bloomed prolifically since we planted it in 2004. Byron Metts does not need regular fertilization to bloom constantly.
