I have several exotic hibiscus but the Smokey Mountain I have has probably been the best bloomer out of all of them. I got mine off a lad...Read Morey who had a black thumb instead of a green one. She was going to pitch it. Rather than telling her she had it in way to heavy soil and was overwatering it, I decided to spare it a long drawn out death and told her I'd take it. I've been nursing it back to health since. When I got it, it had 3 stems and about 2 yellow leaves on each one of them. So I whacked them back, repotted it in an extremely light blend of soil (compared to the peat humus she had it in), osmacote directly under the roots. Regular doses of water soluble fertilizer and it's doing pretty good. Slow grower but beautiful bloomer. Easy to propagate. I started new plants from what I cut off of the plant. I powdered them in growth hormone, sunned them constantly, watered occasionally and misted them daily. Now I have backups just incase anything happens to my big one. =)
