Beautifully ruffled form with large flowers, great stalks, and loads of blooms so you can enjoy them for a long time. This iris is gorgeous - it caught my eye in a huge field of irises and pulled me over (weird, but I had the distinct feeling of wishing to just remain there in its presence - so I'll make a seat next to where mine grows). I admit to having avoided the solid (self) reds as a class as they seemed so imposing for such a self-reflective flower as the iris, but as I marked up my catalogues with notes and visited growers, somewhere in the process of finding all the "other" colors and patterns, I fell deeply for two beauties: this and 'Dynamite' - a huge, smooth-colored bright red - both irises too lovely not to own.

Tall bearded iris "Classic Bordeaux" won AIS Honorary Mention in 1999. It's a tall iris - almost 40".
