The only mistake I think you can make with it is to fail to prune it early. The first flush of bloom is so heavy it generally weighs down the branches, and then the rose reblooms freely through the summer for good color all season. I generally prune lightly in the fall to avoid snagging and injuring the plants, then again in the early spring.
