Thick, creeping underground rootstock. Roots easily along long rhizomes. Hand pulling or digging causes resoprouting. Flowers very early and seeds ripen rapidly. Dies down in the summer heat but will resprout as temps cool. In some areas this can flower and seed 2x in a season. Prolific seeder. Likes alkaline, clay soils but not restricted to them. Poisonous to livestock. Being peddled as medicinal herb (MAO inhibitor) and dye plant but many only interested in its psycotropic properties as a legal halleucinogen.

This plant is considered to be invasive and a noxious weed in many states. It's apparently so bad in Arizona, it's a "Prohibited noxious weed".
