We've ...Read Moreeven wondered whether it might be sub-Andean, as two springs back it was the first plant up in our lower garden (where we hit around 12F, with lots of underground water, every winter.) That spring of 2008 it burst through 5 inches of snow in early April. Definitely at least Zone 7a, which is what we usually rate our lower gardens.
We've tried other large Cannas, such as Canna tuerckheimii, but they don't flower by season's end. Altensteinii always does. Another point for Chilean plants!
