They have the unfortunate characteristic of turning brown but not dropping off the plant. I go through and remove the shriveled brown remains to tidy the plant. Mine is growing in morning sun in a very wet part of the garden.

In the wild this grows in wet lowlands and swamps. It is very sensitive to drought. All azaleas/rhododendrons have shallow roots that appreciate mulching for moisture retention in the garden, but that goes double for this species. This is a great shrub for natural woodlands. Like other azaleas, it needs acid soil.

Got some this year. Flowers are a beautiful white, very nice form, and they are indeed fragrant. Good for a partially shaded, moist location.
