Climb a ladder to capture this beauty which I could only admire from below otherwise. ‘Jungle king’ is one of the most magnificent flowers in the alpinia family. Many have mistaken the cone-shaped bloom as the central attraction of the tropical plant when the true Alpinia flowers are actually the smaller bud-like ones at sides of this cone. A closer look would let you see several small white flowers emerging from the bright red bracts.
Alpinia purpurata, also called as Ostrich Plume and Pink Cone Ginger, has two varieties: the Jungle king and the Jungle queen. The Jungle King is very stately as it boasts deep red spikes of flowers, while Jungle Queen displays the feminine deep pink flowers. Both are popularly used in tropical cut flower arrangements."
