Very attractive plant with arching main stems having numerous seemingly leafless wiry branches that give it a weeping "horsetail rush" (e...Read Morequisetum) appearance. Most attractive in large containers, slopes, spilling over walls.
Flowers are loved by hummingbirds and sphinx moths that are the pollinators.
DO NOT DEAD-HEAD flowers or cut back main stems part way- rather on established plants when the branches are producing few flowers and/or looking ragged, cut them all the way to the ground. This maintains the beauty of its natural weeping form. By consistently cutting back a fraction of stems will have a continuous production of new ones from rhizomatous roots.
Will grow easily from seed although as with other 'Scrophularaceae' the seed are very fine requiring special handling. Is very easy from layering new stem tips before branching into bloom. Stem tips will root occasionally upon moist ground.
I currently have in a very large pot three plants (one each of the three colors) surrounding a un-branched Cordyline ELECTRIC PINK whose trunk is embraced by the tropical looking Chasmanthium latifolium- NORTHERN SEA OATS grass. Very eye catching both close up and far away. [Will post photos when everything is established.]
