Although I contacted Hopkins nursery the grower several times about my numerous issues I'm having with the tree they have not been in the least bit helpful!
So my issues so far have been:
#1 The constant & consistant suckering shoots from the graft, very annoying and labor intensive.
#2 ZERO information about it being a type A or B flowering, even here on DG! I apparently need an opposing type to get more fruit.
#3 Lack luster fruit set inspite of numerous flowers & another avocado tree within 60 feet. Although it is supposed to be self pollinating.
#4 The fruit it does set quite frankly kind of tastes how wet dirt smells, NOT GOOD!
#5 The lack of ANY RESPONSE FROM HOPKINS NURSERY! I was forced to contact them because the retail nursery I purchased it from is no longer in business, and since I'm in the nursery trade this means A: I won't be purchasing any more of there products. B: I definitely won't be recommending there products to anyone.
The benefit I found growing this type is:
#1 It's very cold tolerant
#2 In spite of Ambrosia beetle attack near by (30 feet) on a neighbors tree of a different species, this 5 year old tree was unaffected.
#3 It is a vigorous straight up, well branched, multi flowering grower.
#4 Seems to be so far disease and pest resistant.
Would I recommend growing this tree...frankly NO!
Too many issues not enough return!
