There are flowers, from the beginning of May but they don't really smell like anything. I've gone up close to have a sniff. Nothing. I thought maybe it flowers at certain times of the day, maybe evening, maybe morning, maybe afternoon. Nothing. The flower is large but I am not finding them very attractive either. I tried planting it with a jasminum humile, a yellow jasmine, to make up for the lack of scent and homeliness. I tried sniffing another plant at Cornell Nursery in Portland to see if I'd smell anything, but there was no fragrance even among the nursery stock. I love absolutely everything in my garden but this thing is very offputting. Maybe with time my feelings will change. The only charm it seems to have is a good moon garden effect, the white petals are nice when it's shady, as it does get on the northeast facing site that it is on. It can be potted in a minimum of a 3 gallon container, so it does not take up much space. I am hoping the yellow jasmine helps to take attention off of this odd plant. I guess, it does flower early, perform in the shade, is cold hardy, and can be useful for small spaces in containers. It just doesn't live up to its name.
