One nut is one seed. Raw nuts(seeds) are toxic. Easy to grow from seeds. Very hardy! In summer, plants have small white flowers which bloom above water to attract pollinators to pollinate, once is done then nuts forming under water.
Harvest and storage:
Collect seeds/nuts when they are well developed. Gently lift the floating plant to check if nuts are ready. The mature nuts shell is hard when you gently squeeze, otherwise will be still soft. Mature viable nuts are heavy enough they will sink to bottom of water.
Keep nuts moist and cool with damp medium or in a jar of clean water in fridge. Change water every 2 weeks, discard the floating nuts which are no longer viable. In warm climate, keep the viable nuts in the pond with water over the soil level, do not let soil dry out. When it is warm enough in full sun, nuts will germinate themselves.
