The light brown and cone or egg shaped cones are approximately 5.5" long, asymmetrical at the base and the scales are equipped with prickles on the tips. The very long 15" dark green needles come 3 in a bunch and are spread out or drooping. This pine tree occurs in nature in the range of 5000-8200 ft. in sandy dry soil in souteastern Arizona and also in the southwestern tip of New Mexico, and maybe even in northern Mexico. It is not a very common pine in Arizona and can live up to about 500 years. In Arizona you can find this tree near Cave Creek, Portal.
