Hosta 'Blue Ivory'

Bought (2) of these in 2016 & as an experiment I put 1 in bed on the east side of my garage(morning sun) in very rich prepared & mulched ...Read Moresoil. The 2nd one was put in a med. size wood barrel planter, in a rich blend of soils & mulched. It gets bright shade on a north facing deck. They were slow to respond in year #1, but I used a liquid fish emulsion fertilizer(5-1-1)diluted in water, 4 times in 16'. I deeply mulch my beds over winter(-35 to-40*)plus 2 to 4' of snow protects the hostas. All planter hostas I keep in my insulated, but unheated garage at temps (+10 to +30*). Spring 2017 the planter hostas were the 1st to emerge in March the bed hostas followed in late April. The planter hosta is now 50% larger than the bed hosta, with much brighter colors. I currently have 36 different varieties of hostas & the results are similar when I grow them in larger planters. I move them to beds after 2 or 3 years. I've seen good results doing this with slow growers. I lost no hostas to winter kill in 16'/17', up here on the Canadian border.

I...Read Moret would be a gorgeous hosta if you don't mind the waiting and waiting and waiting... I've now tried to move it for the first time since planting to see if it was planted too deep, too much sun, etc... We'll see how this goes, but so far I'm not impressed.
