They cluster, though, so must be dis-budded if one wants to cut them for bouquets. The blooms also decline rather quickly, which was a little disappointing. The petals closest to the stem dry out quicker than other similar-size varieties. I found myself deadheading Karma Choc more frequently than most. I chose not to use them in cut-flower arrangements due to their tendency to dry out quickly. It was also my only dahlia that was affected by powdery mildew.

I grow it in my garden for several years now and, believe it or not, the tubers stay in the ground during winter. I live in the very south of Netherlands, so our temps are lower than at Dutch seaside. Last winter has been harsh and long. We had frosts into May and during winter temps - 15c for weeks. When I smell at the flowers I even notice a whiff of chocolate. Or is that my imagination?
