The p...Read Moreods with the seeds in are the most toxic and they are produced late summer/fall and are toxic even if eaten later, dried on the plant ,or on the ground. The green leaves are very toxic in the early spring when they first come up out of the ground. My goats kids had birth defects and I lost a buck to poisoning in the early spring. The goats did seem to be able to consume mature leaves during the summer, but I would NOT introduce this plant. One of the birth defects is known as crooked calf syndrome, producing crooked legs in the calves or kids. It does need moist soil, so might not spread in an arid environment. If you have a wetter, perhaps wooded environment, on the edge of meadows, for instance, you probably have it in the environment already.
