The foliage of this tree is beautiful too, and feels like silk.
I'm growing mine as a small tree in a tub, so far it is growing well and is in bloom at the moment (early June in the UK).
Updating info in December 2021:- This tree had been growing in a large tub for about 5 years. We decided to take a chance and plant it directly into the garden. The first year of doing so saw Winter temperatures of -10C (in the UK). Although it did look very sorry for itself and lost its leaves we were so happy to see new buds appear once the weather began to warm up. It produced new leaves and many blooms last Summer 2021. Today it is covered in snow and looking very sorry again. We think the frost may cause the leaves to fall again this year but are confident that it will do the same again in 2022. It is a beautiful tree and much admired by everyone when in bloom. Even when the flowers are gone the beautiful foliage is much admired. So glad to have bought this tree!!
I just bought this plant last summer and put it in an all-morning-sun spot. After 2PM it is bright shade. In NW Washington back in the mountains our winter sun takes a long time to come over the mountains and then swings low giving very little sun to the area. When the temps get freezing cold the ground in this area of the garden remains frozen solid even on those cold but sunny days. I planted this tree (10* tolerant) with skepticism. We had a nasty cold spell this winter of 0* and this shrub hasn't missed a beat! Other plants in warmer parts of the yard either died or were damaged to the ground. A friend's bush that she planted in a large pot died. No blooms yet, but it's still a young plant and it's only mid spring. This bush has already exceeded my expectations.
This is a gorgeous tree which I bought as a 18 inch sapling last year & it has shot up to a height of almost 6 feet in 12 months. ...Read More
It has beautiful silvery oblong leaves which feel like cats ears. I cut mine back a few weeks ago & it is already starting to grow again with loads of little buds along the branches. It has yet to flower but I'll post a photo as soon as it does
