Mine is about 10 yrs old and thriving in the Dallas - Ft. Worth area, which has generally mild winters, except for unfortunate and inevitable bouts of well-below-freezing. I think "Madison" is more attractive than the regular variety, with it's darker green, more rounded leaves. Mine bloomed esp heavy this spring, and greets me with a fabulous fragrance as I walk out my back door!

This list says partial to full shade, but Monrovia says full sun to full shade, which I think is more suitable, as it is thriving in sun here.
