Despite being disappointed in the inaccurate zone 8a hardiness publicity of 'Prince,' I still like this grass. Its rapid growth coupled w...Read Moreith its graceful flowing form make it a great large annual grass. As advertised, 'Prince' will not produce seed heads unless grown in a frost-free situation, but its very nice purple foliage makes up for its lack of "flower power" that other purple fountain grasses produce. It will grow 6'+ tall and wide with much more substantial foliage than other Pennisetums by the end of the growing season. It may not have proven hardy, but 'Prince' definitely deserves its chance to shine in any garden
I grew Prince here in Zone 5 for the first time as an annual. Well worth it. The first month it just seemed to sulk - mid May to mid Jun...Read Moree. By the end of the second month it was 3-1/2 ft tall with excellent coloration. By the end of our growing season and the first hard frost it was 6' to 7'. It would look good any where you want a tall rich purple with grey-green focal point. A setting by a pond would be outstanding. It does not flop. I look forward to growing this grass again.

its leaves are coming right up from the soil and it looks like
it will fill out this 12" planter pretty quick but it has a new
zealand flax look about it that I was interested in. Its turning
a darker marron and is getting close to 2 ft. It should reach
closer to 3ft and get really full. Prince is in my garden path
and it is also getting taller, I have it near larger Herbstonne
rudbeckias and Elderberry tree/shurb and cherokee rudbekia
and roses so its blending in but it will stand out as it grows
larger and the flowers all come out, its an outstanding addition to my garden, I love grasses and have many
large and small but I really love the burgundy giants and
rubeum marron fountain grass varieties I can find.
