I have been growing the one in the photo outdoors since 2006. Its took a setback from snail damage- I almost lost it. Then it never seemed to do well in the media it was in. So last year I took it out of the orchid bark and perlite media and planted it almost bare root in Orchid growing Sphagnum-NOT basket moss. Its responded very well-an increase in girth of stems and overall pick up. Its does seem to also like a light fertilizing with organic ferts. Colors deepen is a sure sign of a good balance.
Hardy to 30F at least, although as difficult as these are to find you wouldnt want to test it. Bring inside for frost in mild climates, back out in normal weather in light to medium shade. Some early morning sun is good for it.
The only method I know of propagation is to let stems lay on a moist media with high humidity. The rooting could take as long as a year-or more.
EDIT UPDATE 2012: It is in the same media and size pot..but has grown more just this one year alone more then it had the first five years. No doubt the better media created a stronger rooting system.
2014: A cat snapped off the larger of the two branches/limbs.
