The flowers are ornamentally insignificant, but they still produce seeds. Seedlings are not variegated and are stronger than the variegated form, so plantings generally revert to the plain species after a few years.
If you grow this in a container, look out for non-variegated seedlings nearby. If you like the foliage, there are better variegated plants without the maintenance headaches this one brings.

I planted a small, cute rounded shrub-like pot of this and have spend the subsequent 5 years tearing it out. It has spread as far as 20 feet from the orignial site by runners from the host plant!
