This is a quite fast growing shrub (averages 30cm/year – 1’) that will bloom on the 3rd or 4th year grown from seeds.
Corynabutilon ceratocarpum has year round interest because of its evergreen (eversilver?) foliage and pretty flowers during spring and early summer. Its main requirements are neutral pH soil and good drainage. Corynabutilon tolerates frost and even moderate snow. During the first year of growth you will have to take care of possible fungal diseases to the roots. After that, it becomes very resistant to diseases and pests. Prune during winter to promote either vertical or horizontal growth.
This lovely shrub can be planted among other shrubs or isolated as a focal point.
Propagation from seeds: during autumn, using a mix of one part sharp river sand, one part regular garden soil and two parts of compost. You can also add perlite or vermiculite to maintain humidity and some anti-fungal product (as recommended by the manufacturer). Mix well, place in your sowing pan, cover with a thin layer of sharp river sand, distribute the seeds and cover them with another fine layer of sharp river sand. Gently apply pressure to the top and place your seed pan either in a cold frame or an unheated greenhouse.
