One is located on private land and contains only one plant, with the other three located in the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge. There are additional populations in northern Mexico (Tamaulipas). It is fully sponsored and its primary custodian in the CPC National Collection of Endangered Plants is the San Antonio Botanical Garden which is currently propagating the plant.
