I've found that they are most...Read More touchy for the first few years, but if you can get one to grow long enough and they get a bit larger, they tend to be hardy even during short cold snaps below 20*F. This is probably due to larger stem diameter, so the same effect could likely be acheived by planting an older specimen or sheltering it for the first couple of years, but I haven't tried it myself.
