It gr...Read Moreows natively in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and far west Texas as well as in Mexico in the states of Sonora, Chihuahua and Coahuila. It can be found in desert scrublands, oak woods and grasslands.
The pubescent stem occassionally has a reddish base. The blooms are white to lavender and various color tones between the color range. It hybridizes with Delphinium madrense in the eastern Big Bend area of Texas as well with Delphinium carolinianum subsp. virescens.
All parts of the plants of the genus Delphinium contain poisons and should never be eaten. Humans and animals can be fatally poisoned by their consumption. Children are most vulnerable because of their small size and natural curiosity. Toxicity varies according to season and the plants' parts and stages of growth. In addition, the plants absorb toxic entities, such as pollutants, pesticides and herbicides from air, water and soil.
