I obtained this plant originally from a grower in Homestead, FL. It has proven as hardy in my plant zone (8b-9a) as the regular cultivar...Read Mores of Rhapis excelsa, but appears to max out at only 4 -5 ft. in height in high shade. In contrast, other full sized specimens of R. excelsa in the area can grow to 8 or 10 ft. high. Not a true dwarf, but definitely a good choice where a somewhat more diminutive hardy, shade tolerant palm is desirable. In general, R. excelsa is planted far to rarely, perhaps owing to its slow growth and relative expense in most nurseries.
