This summer (2009) the garden where it has been growing was sold, and the plant was transplanted to a new location in August. It appears to have survived the move, but we won't really know if it is happy in the new location until it has survived a winter there.
June 2011 Update. The plant has survived another winter, though it was very late to come out of dormancy this year. Other plants are crowding it a bit, so I need to clear some
space around it, and give it a good manure mulch like the yaks in it's native habitat.
February 2013 Update. I purchased seed for Rheum Nobile from Horizon Herbs in November 2012. Sowed the seed in December 2012 and put it in a ziploc bag in the refrigerator. Today, 2/15/2013, I noticed two baby Noble Rhubarbs had germinated. Maybe some company will encourage my original plant to bloom.

This creates a greenhouse effect that protects the flowers from intense cold! It also prevents UV radiation from hurting the flowers.
