Japanese Morning Glory 'Sazanami'

The name Sazanami is translated as follows (thanks to Yasmi in Tokyo!):

"Saza" means small, tiny. "nami" means wave. Sazan...Read Moreami is not big waves but small and calm waves near the beach. The waves that are breaking near the beach and they make white bubbles at the edge of the waves. The flower color, blue with white margin, represent the small waves and bubbles - the RIPPLES upon the sand of the beach. Thus the name "RIPPLES"

There are actually more than one Japanese Morning glory called Sazanami and they are slightly different from different companies.

From the Nichinou Company the flowers call Sazanami are blue with a white throat, white edging and some white stripes.

From the Fukukaen Company the Sazanami are a deeper blue with a white throat and smaller specs and streaks of white.
