Although one should be able to grow these from seeds, all the ones I have seen at nurseries, Home Depot, etc. appear to be grafted. (The three that I have all had obvious graft union scars.)
Although mine are growing in zone 6b, they are reported to have excellent fall color even in warmer zones, such as zone 9. If you plan to purchase more than one, or if you have other trees with fall color, you may wish to purchase these in the fall so you can match the fall colors of the trees.
