African Violets are just the perfect little flowering indoor plant. They can bloom 12 months out of the year. Sometimes they will burst f...Read Moreorward with blooms for awhile and then take a break for a few weeks.They like to dry out just a tad before watering and I find that watering from the bottom is the best. Never repot them into a planter that is too large for them, otherwise you will drown the roots. These plants are like little tropical jewels and must have sufficient light and a weak fertilizer to bloom. I would say a good east or west window would be fine. If you use the west window, you need to pull them into the window a few feet to prevent scorching of the leaves. They are fine in the winter, the sun won't hurt them. I have also used a compact fluorescent light and they have rebloomed for me just fine on a side table. Just replace your regular bulb with the strongest fluorescent bulb possible. Anything around 40 watts is good and will actually put off 100-150 regular incandescent light. The bulb is very cool burning so not to worry. Happy growing these wonderful little gems.
