The flowers are small...less than an inch across...but they are beautiful and there are a LOT of them! It seems to be happy in a pot, sitting where it gets full afternoon sun. The soil it is growing in dries out quickly so it obviously doesn't need constant moisture. I plan to watch for seed pods so I can grow a lot more of these plants!

They can tolerate dryness, and prefer a fairly sunny locaton. I planted mine in the ground (sandy soil) a year ago when grown to a good size in 4-5 years, it was kept in a cold greenhouse over winter prior to that.
Flowers at a fairly early age, ruby red, double, crumpled papery looking flowers with a black eye smother the bush. Seed pods are quite large, very hard, and stay on the bush from one year to the next before they mature, and possibly in nature would rely on extreme heat to burst them. Inside the pods are many tiny, thin seeds.
