It has slowly spread for a few years to be maybe 30 some inches around in a circular patch. They say to keep it dry in the winter and since we get lots of rain in Jan Feb I have kept an inverted kiddy pool over it to keep it dry in the winter. What a trill to be able to grow something in the gloxinia family outdoors!

We are in SE Virginia and hope it will continue to thrive. We first planted it last year, in 2017. It is a gentle spreader and the red bells brighten up the otherwise too green shady areas of a long roadside bed we keep.

.....new addition to our list of winter-hardy gesneriads. G. nematanthodes 'Evita' is late to emerge...usually June in NC. The compact 1' tall x 1' wide clump of soft green foliage is topped starting in August with 1" long bells of the most brilliant orange-red that we have ever seen on anything other than a custom Ferrari. For us, flowering continues until frost. G. nematanthodes also spreads by above ground stolons, soon making a wonderful groundcover. If you like brilliant colors, grab your camera and sunglasses."
