I also grow it as an epiphyte in the crotches of trees with bromeliads. It roots easily from cuttings but takes a while. I just take cuts and stick them in the ground and they root.
They love cool nights with mist and fog.

Susceptible to tiny caterpillar chewings in winter (telltale droppings under the plant on the floor). Bloom varies from year to year. This plant can get leggy, but if you prune the branches back, they fork at the cut---they don't seem to produce new growth down below the cut, so plan your trimming accordingly. I've been trying to propagate cuttings from tip prunings, but no luck so far (my bad attention). Source: The most awesome Bovees Nursery about 10 miles from my house.

I move it back in if we have late snow or hard frost but this plant is Himalayan. It's happy in shade under a Japanese Maple all summer. 5' across n 3' tall arching below the 14" pot. One warning, branches are very long n crisp when young, the new growth is lanky and is easily snapped - it has little flexibility until it thickens but is still somewhat brittle so be careful moving. Mine turns very red if it gets cold but leaves REVERT to green in a few days if you shelter it. Flowers are strange and stunning. The plant reminds me of a boxwood crossed with a lanky fuchsia. Easy to grow I don't water mine a lot in the winter. Maybe every ten days or so. Beginning to form caudex already.

Mine has a 5-6' spread making it hard to place in the yard.Temps of 30-32 have no effect. It's bay area hardy. Just never let dry out, this plant is a water lover.
