The leaves of verbascum are quite large and took up a lot of space in the garden. The largest leaves at the base of the plant matted down neighboring plants and became yellow and soggy.
The flower stalks of all the verbascum varieties I grew were weak and the flowers were very delicate. They didn't hold up to even a day of drizzle. I tried in vain to prop up the stems, but they were too tender and merely draped over any support.
The plant was extremely hardy, however, impervious to slugs and frost. The mounds of fuzzy verbascum leaves were the only green things in the garden both late fall and early spring.
The color of the copper rose variety was not vivid as shown in some photos.
