I, personally, think that the Anhinga is one of the most interesting of all the upright waterbirds.
Some of my favorite facts are listed below:
1. All of the Anhinga's feathers aren't waterproof. (Cormorants have a waterproof insulating down that keeps water of their skin).
2. Anhingas behave a lot like a Heron or Egret wile hunting, except that they stalk their prey while under water.
3. The Anhinga makes an incredible transformation while drying its feathers: It goes from a swimming fish eater to a bird able to soar great heights!
We get them a lot here in Florida, very fun to observe.

The Anhinga is very common here in South Texas. I took a recent confirmation shot of one in Little White Oak Bayou, on the near northside of Houston. They can be seen in golf course ponds and the coastal area of local rivers. Some people don't like them. Others do. My confirmation shot was not clear enough to post in the BirdFiles. Rod
