The babies left the nest leaving one unhatched egg in the nest. The nest is in a flower pot that was mostly covered by a sack of potting soil. The two birds caring for the babies are very active flying back and forth with bugs of various types.

This is a tiny, delightful bird which can be found in many gardens in this area (Fair Oaks CA). In spring a pair will use nest boxes readily and can quickly become accustomed to the presence of a quiet gardener. They are voracious insectivores and so do a great service for gardeners!
