Nutmeg Mannikins have naturalized in Hope Ranch, near Santa Barbara, CA. I have observed them there for five+ years. They appeared at my feeders in Carpinteria 8-25-12
aproximately 16 miles from Hope Ranch. (Two adults and one juvenile).

The Nutmeg Mannikin (Lonchura punctulata) is a tiny, dark brown, Estrildid Finch with a black bill. Native to SE Asia, from India to the Philippines. Nutmeg Mannikin are usually found in small flocks on open grassy areas, of lawns and parks. It was introduced to Hawaii in 1865. Nutmeg Mannikin can be found in Kapi'olani Park, between Waikiki and Diamond Head Crater.
