This is an interesting cockroach that is widespread in Australia. It feeds on dead wood, boring long tunnels through logs on the forest floor. It is mainly flightless and they make sure of this in a strange way. The mature cockroaches do grow wings and maybe do fly a little, but in a colony of these animals, the other cockroaches chew the wings off any adults that appear, leaving chewed stumps, (visible in two of my images above).
