This beautiful bee is special because it appears later in the season when other bees look worn out or have perished, as the females collect pollen from Ivy flowers (hence the specie name Hederae) while the males can also be found on other flowers feeding on nectar.
It can be distinguished from other Colletes sps. by the typical orange-brownish bands on its abdomen.
