I am very inexperienced in identifying any type of moth or butterfly, but after looking at the others on your website, I believe this is a Sphnix Moth. I hope someone can assist in the identification. This moth was rather large, about 4-5 across at it appears here. The tail tips up. It had ragged-looking edges on the inside of the wings. It sat on this spot for almost an entire day. This location is in central Alabama. Thank you for your very informative website.

Eyed Sphinx Moths are regular visitors here in Ouray Colorado. We just leave the outdoor lite on all night and they are "attached" to the white stucco for all or part of the next day.
Wing spread is about 1 1/2 inches. Biggest moth here.
Elevation: 7550 feet
