I live in Michigan and we have them here. It stung/bite which ever they do on the back twice. It was still alive after, and it was as big as a honey bee. And yes it hurts!

Despite its species name, it is found over a large amount of North America from Canada down to Texas and Florida - may be one of the most common bee species you see pollinating flowers in summer - they are much smaller compare to honey bees, maybe 1/4 inches or smaller - they don't sting or bite. Will pollinate a wide range of flowers, mostly smaller kinds - will try to add details later about flowers they prefers the most. Are attracted to opaque plastic covers, had lots die along with other bug species when got under plastic covering outside chair covers.
