In southern europe the cream spotted form of Speckled Wood (P. aegeria tircis) is replaced by the orange spotted form (P. aegeria aegeria). It was one of the first butterflies I noticed when I moved from the UK to the south of France. Fascinating that the markings seem identical, but the colouring is so different.
