Wing span: 1 7/8 - 2 1/4 inches (4.7 - 5.8 cm).
Identification: Antenna with alternating black and white rings; front of head with white hairs centrally with black hairs on the two margins; male forewing lacking a small black median spot near trailing edge of forewing; male submarginal band of forewing broad relative to that of the Rocky Mountain Parnassian.
Flight: One flight mainly late June to late August.
Caterpillar hosts: Stonecrop (Sedum) in the Crassulaceae family.
Habitat: Moist tundra and alpine meadows.
Range: Holarctic. In North America occuring through most of southern Alaska (including southwest Alaska Coast, Alaska Range, and south to Kodiak Island) and running eastward into western Yukon (Ogilvie Mou... read more
