We have a pomegranate tree in Sedona, AZ and get these bugs feeding on the developing fruit. Treatment involves weekly inspection and insecticide as needed for the newly hatched nymph. On our tree, we haven't treated and some of the fruit has brown areas inside.

I find this bug in sizable numbers on my tomatoes here in Southwest Mississippi in midsummer. They puncture a tiny hole - almost invisible. The area around the hole turns to a light yellow color. The area around that spot tastes terrible. They can ruin many ripe tomatoes.
I find this bug is a big "negative" in my garden! They do have a bad smell when they are smashed. I was advised that it is a relative of the "stink bug".

Even as a kid growing up in southern Alabama, we always referred to it as the Stink Bug & were advised not to squash it! Here in west central Florida we still refer to them as Stink Bugs & just leave them be as they go about their way!
