Quoted from the ID forum thread
:"This is a 'good guy' (or gal, as the case may be); it is Trichopoda pennipes, a fly in the family Tachinidae that parasitizes squash bugs. I often see them among our squash plants. See http://tinyurl.com/lfr726 for images and more information."

Fly lays eggs on large larva and adults of Squash bugs. Eggs will be on underneath edge of bug abdomen.

This is one of the Good Guys! The female lays her eggs in the dasterdly Squash Bug or Stink Bug and the larvae feed upon the host.

They are found throughout the US and the adults feed on nectar. There may be several generations a year.
