The striped bark scorpion is the most commonly found scorpion in the United States. Based on its appearance from far away, it can appear to be the Arizona bark scorpion or the stripetail scorpion. While all three are similar, the stripes on the back of our little friend is what tells it apart from the other 2. I'm providing this information because I was confused when I found one scurrying around my bedroom floor two days ago. I then compared it to the three noting the similarities. Would like to add confused...I was at work in Houston in a large campus and had one crawl into my office this morning. From what I have read, they could be in the Houston area, but in the middle of a large business campus? Maybe hitchhiked in on something?

Went to a night tour at a state park - the ranger put a black light on a mesquite tree and immediately there appeared 3 scorpions that you could not see with a regular light. THEY GLOW IN THE DARK with a black light!! It was very cool but I will never handle wood again without that thought in my head.
One stung my dog as I was letting her out. The scorpion came in the house - so I had no choice but to kill it. The dog was definitely hurting but I gave her a Benadril and she was fine the next a.m.
