Passionvine Hopper

The Scolypopa australis, commonly know as the Passionvine Hopper, is a brownish/grey colour with partly transparent wings. The adults are about 7mm long, and the nymphs - called Fluffy Bums" - are wingless and about 5mm in length.These hoppers suck the sap from plants. This leaves a secretion of honeydew which the bees gather. They are also known to cause honey poisoning.
I noticed that they were very prolific on the new shoots of my cherry tree, and when disturbed flitted around my face until they settled back in place again. Quite harmless.
These hoppers are in New Zealand and Australia.
